History of the trail

Ancestors of mana whenua journeyed from Polynesia to Tūranganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne) more than 700 years ago. "Tupapa: Our Stand. Our Story." was launched in 2019, a collaboration between local hapū to share this story Link to Tupapa 

Tips & Logistics

This is a “there and back” trail, which starts at the three dimensional overview map where Waikanae Creek joins the Tūranganui River. Allow at least 1½ hours to walk the trail then return to the start.
